Beginning ​Oil Painting - Two day workshop

Class description:
This class will focus on fundamentals of color mixing, color theory, and working with a limited palette. We will start with drawing a very simple still life with 3 objects. The first painting sketch with be monotone to explore shade and concentration of paint. Then we will do a 4-color painting of the subject with 2 colors plus Black and white. The second day will continue using an underpainting to establish the composition and then move on to applying color in thin glazes. On the second day students are welcome to work from photographs of their choosing, set up a still life or work on plein air painting in the garden. I have several plein air easels to loan you or folding tables can be moved outside.
At the end of the day the class will gather in the main studio to share discoveries. There is a covered deck where students can work in case of rain. This two-day class lays out a fundamental practice for learning to work with oil paint as a medium and to better understand color mixing.
 
Students must bring most of their materials, a list of supplies needed for the class will be sent out after registration is completed. A variety of gessoed papers will be supplied for experimentation. If you are a beginner and the expense of purchasing materials is prohibitive, I am happy to supply the oil paints and brushes so you can figure out if this is a medium you want to work in further.
