Mosaic Glass Creations Class - Two day workshop Thursday & Friday, October 31 & November 1 - 10:00-4:00
Class description: Each student will design and construct a small sampler, and a mosaic wall tile or wall sculpture using transparent, opaque glass, tiles and memorabilia from your collection or from a variety of treasures I have collected. Principles of design will be discussed, and students will design with colored paper, and draw to planning out ideas. I have a large selection of images from other mosaic artists for inspiration. A demonstration in cutting, snipping, grinding glass will be given and then students can start to build their artistic creations. The designs will be assembled and glued on a wood substrate. The final step for a mosaic will be to set the glass permanently in place with colored mortar. Your design can be abstract and playful exploring colorful patterns, or realism, or one could explore drawing on the wood substrate or use photographs with transparent glass on top. I have a selection of paints that can be baked on to the glass as another possibility for drawing or decoration. The possibilities are endless. You will leave with two finished works of art to hang on your wall. Please bring magazine images, drawings ideas, photos or other sources of inspiration for your creation. Each student's design will be kept to a manageable size so that they can complete the project in 2 days.
