Stained Glass Class - Two day workshop Saturday & Sunday, November 2 & 3 - 10:00-4:00
Class description: Each student will design and construct a small 4”x 4” sampler so you gain an understanding of cutting, grinding and wrapping the glass. Then everyone will move on to design a larger stained-glass composition using transparent and opaque glass from my collection. We will begin the class discussing the principles of design, working with colored paper, and drawing and planning out your ideas. I will share photographs of images by other artists that will hopefully inspire and inform your designs. A demonstration in cutting, snipping, grinding glass and soldering will be given and then students can start to build their artistic creations. Your design can be abstract and playful exploring colorful patterns. You can incorporate copper sculptural or metal elements in your design. You can paint directly on the glass with paints that you bake on. You can also explore sandwiching photographs between transparent glass on either side. The possibilities are endless. You will leave with a finished work of art to hang on your wall. Please bring magazine images, drawings ideas, photos or other sources of inspiration for your creation. Each student's design will be kept to a manageable size so that they can complete the project in 2 days.
