“Kathryn offered a one-day plein air watercolor class which was just what I needed to jump start my own stalled efforts at painting. I was motivated enough by that class to follow on with a private lesson a few days later. Kathryn is a great teacher. Her own amazing art, which was displayed in the studio where we worked, was inspiring. Materials were provided so that students could try what was available before buying their own. Class started on time; Kathryn’s instruction was clear, well-organized, and fast-paced—-no time wasted! After practicing a few techniques, students worked on their own chosen compositions for the rest of class time. Kathryn gave attention and encouragement to each student as needed, without “hovering”. “Kathryn's Basic Drawing Class was quite an eye opener for me. I had never taken an art class (other than a required survey course in college) and I was so afraid to discover that I have no talent at all. Kathryn's welcome was wonderfully open to her students. Her studio is beautiful, light, and airy. I was immediately comfortable to try. What I learned was that drawing is a very individual enterprise, that paying attention to your subject in all its detail is key, that your tools matter, and that willingness to practice and retry, again and again, is the only way to hone skills. I'm still practicing and hope to attend another class soon!”
